Trendy disabled Dad from Somerset discovers TGA mobility scooters are cool
Despite living with breathing and walking difficulties, X-box and football fan Dan Trask aged 30 from Somerset, has discovered how to remain an active cool Dad thanks to a trendy TGA Minimo mobility scooter.
Dan has two young daughters aged 3 and 7 and lives with his partner in scenic Timberscombe, near Minehead. Dan was born with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, chronic airflow obstruction and exercise induced Hypoxia which means he requires ambulatory oxygen to breath. This was the result of his lungs being damaged during his mother’s pregnancy as she had to be treated for Leukaemia.
As Dan only has 25% lung function his capacity to walk any distance is limited so to remain mobile he uses a mobility scooter. Before driving a new TGA Minimo Dan owned a different folding scooter however its performance regularly let him down. Now with a trendy white Minimo Dan is able to continue enjoying life with regular trips to local forests and Bristol City FC.
Dan explains: “When you live with damaged lungs you have to make the most of the limited things you can do. When I was younger my lungs were still strong enough for me to play football however as I have got older I need oxygen on a regular basis. I live my live with COPD like symptoms which restricts my walking however with my new Minimo I can carry my oxygen cylinder on board which gives me the freedom I need. People always look at my oxygen kit and wonder why I need this however I am not embarrassed anymore. I don’t feel conspicuous in a bad way on my Minimo either as it looks cool and nothing like an old lady’s scooter. It caught my eye the first time I saw one in Motability Lifestyle magazine and it does the same with everyone who see its. If you are a young style-conscious man but live with a disability, why should you have to drive an old-fashioned scooter?”
Dan continues: “Its great going out together as a family especially to Minehead as I can drive along the seafront or explore the forest on the crown estate in Dunster. We like to go there and look at England’s tallest tree which is over 60m high and my Minimo copes well with the tracks and trails. My partner folds up my Minimo and puts it in the car boot without any hassle, it’s the best folding scooter I’ve seen. TGA have been so good to me as they have allowed me to have my Minimo on credit despite not have the best credit rating. It’s such a cool scooter.”
