TGA Mobility in partnership with Lake District to highlight accessibility for all
At TGA, we are now working with the Lake District National Park to encourage mobility scooter and wheelchair users to enjoy places they previously thought weren’t accessible.
The Lake District National Park is 70 this year and provides 50 ‘Miles without Stiles’ inclusive walks for people who use mobility scooters, wheelchairs, walking aids or who just want a low-level walk. TGA offers mobility products to suit all kinds of people and needs with scooters and powerchairs that will handle all types of terrain, especially the Breeze S4 and Vita X. Awe-inspiring views, tranquil lakes and remote rugged landscapes are all accessible with the right scooter and the right advice.
Many TGA scooter owners have already discovered the joys of the Lake District such as Mychaela Green from Kent who says: “I really didn’t want to go home after visiting the national park with my friend, dog Nova and Vita scooter. I also took my Autofold scooter. It was amazing. We did over 45 miles in one week and visited everywhere – we shopped around Keswick, picnicked by Ullswater Lake, saw the stunning Aira Force Falls and even had a go over rocky terrain near Rydal Cave. The new accessible trail along the old railway line between Keswick and Threlkeld was so memorable, flat and easy for everyone, really pretty. Considering what we have all been through during lockdowns, to get away was so lovely.
“We got away from lots of people, sometimes walking for hours without seeing anyone. The views were breath-taking… I called it God’s own country, it looked like heaven in my opinion. Staying in a caravan in the middle of nowhere and being in vast open spaces on a scooter I had a ball. My Vita got me to places I never thought possible and around towns, my Autofold was the best. Back at the caravan we could fold it up, so it took up little space. To sit and each your lunch on a fell mountain, surrounded by just sheep and looking down at a stunning lake is like nothing else on earth.”
Sarah Calderbank, Assistant Head of Communications at the Lake District National Park, is delighted with this new partnership as she explains: “Being approached by TGA has resulted in our park and its visitors now having access to valuable advice from a respected mobility scooter specialist. This means we can reassure more disabled and elderly people that it is possible to reach remote places and savour the memorable sights they deliver. We are committed to making sure the Lake District National Park is accessible for all and our communication plan with TGA strengthens our commitment to supporting inclusion and positive mental health.”
Emma Moody, Recreation and Sustainable Transport Officer for the Lake District National Park, is delighted with this new partnership as she explains: “We are committed to making sure the Lake District National Park is accessible for all and our partnership with TGA strengthens our aims of supporting inclusion and positive health and wellbeing. By working with TGA on these videos, we’ve been able to refresh our promotion of these Miles without Stiles routes, and share valuable advice from a respected mobility scooter specialist – all during the National Park’s 70th anniversary. We’re delighted to welcome more people to places that they previously thought were inaccessible, savour the memorable sights and take home lifelong memories.”
